What something that physicists probably do on their free time is lollygag on physics game to test if it works correctly according to the formulas that they have studied, and there is one game that will give them, or anyone that played it, a satisfied look on their face, is Blow things up! And that’s a pretty straightforward game title if you ask me.
Place bombs on the screen and detonate to blow things up. They give no reason for you as to why you should do it, except because it is tons of simple fun. Anyone with a particular love for physics will find the game real stress reliever and time killer, and all you have to do is to let the orange evil bad guys stay anywhere...anywhere but within your view. That’s right; send those spike-toothed balls away to advance to the next level. It would be just the sheer and basic principle of giving the player fun at the first few levels, then later, you would be making use of the brain for those ‘how will I blast him away if he’s in there’ times and those annoying moments where you have less bombs that you need. Try to place a bomb near each and every orange ball to see a synchronized blast off if you’re just into the fun and not about the trophies.
If there are bombs left after you finished a level, you will have a trophy awarded, which is pretty common in the early game because then they’ll just be on top of easy to destroy brick constructions. If you used almost all the bombs or used too many, unnecessarily, you will just be awarded a star which isn’t that cool, and would be the trend in the more advanced levels where they’ll inside deep and secure walls or if the bad guys are too far from each other. There will also be other surfaces like a wooden pinwheel, a slippery material and of course a solid rock foundation. The intricate designing of the levels are good to keep your mind working although some parts of it might get your brain too worked.
There will be excruciatingly hard levels which may want to make you see the walkthrough and we all have to thank those patient and brave players for giving us this necessary evil in gaming. Take note though that there could be better bomb positions that you can think of than the ones shown in the guide. Some also needs precise timing as well as putting the bomb in the perfect spot to get the desired effects, so a bit of trial and error is ok because you can always instantly reset the level if you think something went wrong in your genius calculation. Have as many tries as you want, no penalty here to know if you already suck in this game too much.
While the game’s fun is its core to hook you into it, you might be missing a soundtrack that gets the ball rolling, although you can always just play something on your media player and just listen to the sound of explosions and orange bad guys flying off the screen. Blow things up will brighten your day.
Let the games begin...
We all know that life as a fighter is a life lived in danger, and one lived in honor and glory as well, and stickmen can’t get enough of it. Many games and animations have been done for them like the Xiao Xiao and Castle series, and this one game certainly blends with the stickmen’s hall of awesomeness. ElectricMan 2 HS is one tournament fighting game to lend your skills and time into.
You will instinctively know that this game would be intense and fast-paced the moment you hear that background music. When you start a new game, you are quickly brought to the character creation screen where you can pick the name and aura color of your character. You would then also be choosing a difficulty level, and I recommend normal for the new players because of the balance in the enemies’ fighting skill; not too shabby, but not Chuck Norris either.
You will then proceed to the Voltagen training course, where you will learn all the fight moves that you’ll be using later. Once you’ve done and memorized all of them, the rest is up to you. We shall then experience the real heat of battle.
The enemies aren’t arranged according to strength, but rather by their numbers. You will first be fighting two enemies, then three, four, and so on until you’ll be running around rampant just to avoid being hit although it really is very hard to evade and attack at the same time if you are surrounded with hostile martial artists and luckily, everyone gets hit by a punch if they are close together. You’ll be encountering many obstacles in your path to the title of champion, like Replicants, The Frozen, Cirrian Guards and more, and you’ll be fighting them in their own territories, making the battles more exciting and unique. Fortunately for you, they don’t have special techniques or fatal moves, but they still outnumber you and this could mean death if you aren’t careful. The enemies aren’t very strategic when attacking and they mostly just charge at you with arms and feet hungry for a senseless clobbering of stick faces, although some of them may opt to stay away if they feel that their health are being continuously beat out of them. Beware if they surround you, because if you get hit by all of them simultaneously, well, game over for you. You can still attack them though, by pressing the kick button you’ll be kicking them in the head while having some sweet airtime.
The coolest feature of the game is probably the slow motion attacks. You’ll be doing some awesome punch and kick combos normally, but the slow-mo moves are a lot better and deals more damage. The slow motion throw is also the best way to finish someone off, pull the enemy into the air, then blast him away with a non-forgiving kick that sends him flying to the edge of the screen at the speed of sound (approximately).
All who have finished would be grateful for a sequel of Electricman2HS, hopefully with better looking punch-kick combinations of kung fu and better overall visual appeal. Yet this game is already good as it is.
I personally think that being encased inside a transparent ball isn’t the best means of travel, and a green checker designed field with explosions also isn’t the best place to roll in either, yet our brave little guy in Monki Bound have already decided that this is the best way to live a fulfilled life.
You already have the first five levels available for play at the start of the game, with the rest up to level 30 still locked. This is good though, so you can master the controls and memorize the speed of your little monkey in a ball. You move your character with the arrow keys, and you can press two of them at once to move in that direction easily and not have to roll one direction at a time. Also take not that you do not move the instant you press an arrow key. There is a bit of delay before your monkey ball moves to where you direct him. With this in mind, you might want to put him as near as possible to the edge of the safe tiles, if you are up against a long row of exploding tiles.
You would then notice that speed is somewhat of an issue, especially when you are already on the levels with exploding tiles, although the speed of your monkey ball is set so that you have just enough time to cross a dangerous square block. This practically means that you can’t just dash through the field, all reliant on luck that it doesn’t blow up on your face which will send you back to the start of the level. You have to learn the pattern at which the tiles explode. It could be one after another, or two at a time with a safe block in between, do they explode continuously in a fast or slow manner? If you already know the pattern, you should then prepare your character for the best adrenaline rush of his life. Run, or in this case, roll until the end!
Bananas that are placed in the field will give you bonus points if you collect them, although they are mostly placed in a dangerous area and if you try to get them, you might risk exploding, so you would choose between getting a high score, or a fast time, although it is not impossible to get all the bananas in a level and make it out alive without a single death, you just have to have mastery.
The game isn’t at the height of its development yet, just sporting a single, bare background behind the field and not much animation except the explosions which look like ink being shot out of a pen, and of course your monkey that mysteriously got inside a ball. The audio is set to a retro beat which is appropriate since these kinds of games have already existed for a long time. All those behind, Monki Bound is still a game good enough to immerse you, that your heart would sometimes race if you are running through an explosive square and be a bit enraged when you are almost at the end and got blasted back to the start.
